Edwin Valero Takes Own Life
World lightweight boxing champion from Venezuela, Edwin Valero has taken his own life Monday while inside his prison cell. He has been arrested the previous day for the murder of his young wife.
Edwin Valero, 28, hanged himself by making a rope out of his clothes. The boxer was detained Sunday after he confessed to the crime he did to his 20-year-old wife, Jennifer Carolina Viera de Valero.
Edwin Valero had an unbeaten record of 27 fights. He was the WBC lightweight champion before stating his intention in February to go up a division. He was considering stepping up to welterweight to take on Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao.
