Sex and The City 2 Fails To Capture Weekend Box Office
Memorial Day weekend saw the opening of Sex and the City 2 but the film did not perform as expected. They raked in $51.4 million over the five-day long weekend, which is less than what the first movie grossed in three days back in 2008.
Memorial Day is traditionally one of the biggest movie-going weekends of the year, the new Jerry Bruckheimer action flick “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” also flopped and the only solid film to perform is “Shrek Forever After”, which is now on its second weekend.
Total box office revenue for the four-day holiday weekend was an estimated $186 million, the lowest total since 2001. The actual number of tickets sold — about 23.4 million — was the lowest since 1993, according to data compiled by Hollywood.com.
