SFP Transceivers | Mini-GBIC SFP
What are SFP transceivers or mini-GBIC SFP? What suppliers carry them and where can you buy one? Here now are some information about SFP transceivers or small form-factor pluggable transceivers.
An SFP or mini-GBIC is a compact, hot-pluggable transceiver that is commonly used for telecommunication and data communications applications. They interface a network device mother board onto a fiber optic or copper networking cable.
SFP transceivers are available commercially from suppliers in a variety of transmitter and receiver types. This allows users to select the appropriate transceiver for each link and provide the required optical reach over the available optical fiber type. They usually have capabilities for data rates up to 4.25 Gbit/s.
SFP transceivers are designed after the GBIC interface which allows it to have greater port density than the GBIC. For this reason it is also called a mini-GBIC.
SFC transceivers suppliers and manufacturers include 3COM, ACP, Cisco and many others. You can buy them now online through Amazon here.
